About Pilates

Pilates is a method of exercise designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. This form of movement originated in Germany over 90 years ago by Joseph H. Pilates during World War I. He developed precise movements emphasizing control and form to aid the injured soldiers in regaining their health. Pilates created “The Pilates Principles” to condition the entire body: proper alignment, centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing, and flowing movement.


Pilates has many benefits. It is a great way to rehabilitate an injury, to increase flexibility, to obtain a strong core, and to create a strong and healthy back. It is a great way to correct muscular imbalances and improve posture, coordination, balance, and strength. Restoring a healthy balance is not only important to our physical form, but also our long term wellness.
